The Frankfurt Book Fair 2017 marks the first anniversary of the launch of Ingenta Open, our new hub for open access content and open access publishers.
There have been two new major developments over the past 12 months since launch. The first is that we are now indexing all the content from the directory of open access journals (DOAJ). The second is that we are also indexing all the open access articles from hybrid journals that are hosted on Ingenta Connect. This unique feature will enable all researchers to find open access content from both fully open access journals and hybrid channels in just one place, and drive additional traffic to subscribed and PPV content on Ingenta Connect.
The next stage will be to index book content from DOAB and OAPEN, plus content from other open access publishers and aggregators, while continuing to provide a fully serviced and supported content management system for new publishers, of course.
The low cost of hosting with Ingenta Open, due to its association with Ingenta Connect, makes the new service particularly attractive to publishers using open source systems, or platforms which necessitate ongoing in-house maintenance, hosting and support costs.
We are now in discussions with Google about appropriate indexing for IngentaOpen.com and are currently revising the architecture underpinning the platform, which will make possible features such as print-on-demand, APC processing, comprehensive metrics and peer review support.
Next year we will begin to index the content from participating University repositories. It’s an exciting time for Ingenta Open and we look forward to driving traffic to your OA content in the future.
