“We are planning to introduce the Professional or Professional Lite plans on an trial basis to all publishers already part of the TrendMD programme, as we believe it helps drive traffic – and sales! As global research output continues to rise, the competition for discovery is only getting tougher. TrendMD distributes links to content via a cross-publisher recommendation widget that is simple and free for scholarly publishers to install on their Ingenta Connect pages. Via contextualised, federated search, TrendMD keeps readers engaged by highlighting articles that will be of interest both within the Ingenta Connect database and externally, on other academic sites.
So what are the Professional or Professional Lite plans?
In addition, the widget gives publishers the ability to participate in an online marketplace; publishers earn credits by showcasing links to third-party sponsored content. Earned and purchased credits are used to promote links to their own content on sites across the network using a flexible cost-per-click
model.

This Case Study, published in the journal Learned Publishing , shows how TrendMD increased readership of one journal by 49%. Users clicked on over 1.2 million article recommendations during the month of October 2016, including over 400 thousand sponsored articles that delivered new visitors to the 3,000 sites in our network.
