Oxford, UK, 25 July 2019 – As part of Ingenta’s continual hardware replenishment program equipment is regularly phased out and then recycled. This year, Ingenta decided to make a charitable donation instead. Ingenta’s Enterprise Support Services team rebuilt and updated 18 Windows 10 laptops which were then donated to the Community Coding Club.
The Community Coding Club is a not-for profit social enterprise aimed at upskilling students, teachers and the local community in digital skills. The organisation operates in over 50 schools in West London and provides after school digital skills to children such as computing, computer coding, music technology and robotics. The vast majority of the collaboration is free as the teaching is funded by the after-school club and is primarily paid for by parents.
Nick Rai from the Community Coding Club said, “The equipment generously donated by Ingenta will be used by our students learning digital skills in schools. It will also be used by our apprentices who are studying software development. Our mission to upskill both students and teachers in digital skills and spread mental health awareness such as social media addiction. We have literally taken these laptops to school who do not have the correct equipment in order to ensure students do not fall behind.”
As a community focused initiative, one of the Community Coding Club’s goals is to employ as many locals from as many different backgrounds as possible. This involves candidates who may not have had a formal education.
Paul Roglic, Ingenta’s Global Support Services Director said, “Both IT and the publishing industry are continually evolving, so the skill of computer coders can’t be underestimated in the development of products which will resolve tomorrow’s challenges and create new opportunities. We hope this donation helps develop future coders and produces the next generation of IT professionals…”
